Korea Plans to Develop Homegrown Mobile Phone Operating System

The Korean government plans to set up a consortium to build a mobile phone operating system and now invites Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics to join it, according to an August 24, 2011 report by the Financial Times. Although the nature of the operating system has not been decided, details of the government's plan are expected to be released in October this year. It is reported that approximately 50% of the consortium to be set up will be constituted by IT SMBs (Small- and Medium-Sized Businesses).
